  • Innovation at its peak – The Last Book by MIT

MIT students and professors are working on a incredible project called, The Last Book.
As the name itself suggests that this book will suggest a way to mark an end of books withprinting pages. Its tough to replace printed books due to usability and readability issues but still work is going on to resolve that out also.

As the newspaper states
” As envisioned at the Media Lab, the book pages will each have fine wires carrying electricity to flip the dots in the direction of a computer concealed in the book binding. The user will scroll through a list of book titles displayed on the book’s spine. If the user selects “Ulysses,” the computer will make the text appear on the book’s pages by flipping the appropriate spheres to their black or white sides.”

Just an Idea –>Tends to Thought –> Tends to Reality ….

msurface2.jpgmsurface.jpg

The fast service provided by fast food chains like McDonalds, Pizza Hut and beverage chains like Coffee Café Day or Barista is commendable. Looking at these services, I used to analyze the power behind this. Only Manual power and management was the driving force which could speed up the serviceOne way which could have brought a pace into this service, technically was to take order right from the table where customer is sitting. Taking orders but not manually.
Over the desk, customer has his menu ready but again how to pass on the order.
Best possible way currently is to involve waiter and pass on the order to the counter. See your order number on the token display screen and get the order when done.

Another thing I used to think of is to have menu list available on table itself but available digitally. A menu card digital sheet is spread over the table and screen is locked to press any key just like mobile phones. It is locked until customer unlocks it by pressing unlock button. (A very similar how we do on Mobile Phones for locking the keypad)

And as they say a Thought can anytime get converted into Ideas and an Idean can anytime become a Reality….. Here is Microsoft Surface which would make this easily available depending on price of this gadget. Amazing to see the way this is designed.
